de stad van de liefde

Cliché, toeristenlokkertje of toch historische onderbouwing? PLEIN PUBLIQUE zoekt uit waarom Parijs de stad van de liefde wordt genoemd.

Parijs heeft maar liefst drie (bij-)namen namen hoog te houden: lichtstad, stad van de mode en stad van de liefde. Vooral die laatste spreekt tot de verbeelding, vooral nu Valentijnsdag voor de deur staat en de aanbiedingen voor citytrips naar Parijs ons om de oren vliegen. Nieuwsgierig als we zijn pluizen we de oorsprong van de bijnaam ‘stad van de liefde’ eerst eens even haarfijn uit. Met liefde, dat spreekt voor zich ;)

L'AMOUR SECRET

Prille liefde is kwetsbaar, roddel en achterklap is van alle tijden. Hoe leer je een potentiële lover kennen zonder dat je reputatie nog vóór de eerste kus naar de haaien gaat? Juist, door the public eye te ontwijken. Moeilijk voor te stellen, maar in de middeleeuwen was Parijs een landelijke gemeente met een wirwar van kanalen en waterwegen – de ideale hide-out voor geliefden, ver van nieuwsgierige oogjes en Aagjes op de wallekant. Ontluikende liefde op het water, democratisch dwars alle sociale klassen heen, herkenbaar en puur in onschuld.

L'AMOUR OHLALA

Rond 1850 keerde het tij: onschuld maakte plaats voor ontucht. De Industriële Revolutie trok duizenden arbeidskrachten – mannen én vrouwen - naar Parijs en zoals dat gaat in een commercieel bloeiende maatschappij: er ontstond een lekker losbandig sfeertje. De beroemde Parijse romantiek werd frivoler, het nachtleven uitbundiger, erotisch getint cabaret (denk: Moulin Rouge) kwam in de mode en ‘betaalde liefde’ werd een cult-hit bij dichters, schrijvers en kunstenaars. Voilà de beroemde sexy vibe van Parijs: romantiek met een pikant ohlala-sausje.

CULT CLASSICS D'AMOUR

Parijs ademt liefde in alle vormen. Soms verborgen, soms uitbundig zichtbaar. Op straat, bij een café, in een vluchtige kus die niemand lijkt te regisseren. De stad heeft al generaties lang het decor gevormd voor beelden waarin romantiek vanzelfsprekend voelt. Echt of in scène gezet — het verschil vervaagt. Wat overblijft is het gevoel. Intiem, speels en een tikje mysterieus. Precies zoals Parijs bedoeld is. Let’s keep the magic alive.

Dé plek waar je – althans tot 2015 – je liefde symbolisch bezegelde door een hangslot met liefdesverklaring aan de reling van de brug te bevestigen. Dit über-romantische concept werd slachtoffer van zijn eigen succes: de reling dreigde het letterlijk te begeven onder de tonnen staal – 700.000 slotjes, meer dan 45 ton. Sodejû zeg. In 2015 werden de relingen, inclusief slotjes, verwijderd en vervangen voor glazenwanden. Knappe amant die hier nog een slotje aan weet te rijgen. Nieuwe ophangplekken komen en gaan om dezelfde reden: Pont de l'Archevêché, bij de Notre Dame, is inmiddels ook al gecancelled. Is eeuwige liefde niet meer van deze tijd? Mais non, gewoon slim opletten waar je ‘wild hangt’.

L'AMOUR & LA MUR

Het idee voor "Le Mur des Je t'aime" in de wijk Montmartre komt van Frederic Baron, een multidisciplinaire kunstenaar en ras-romanticus. De muur is bedekt met geëmailleerde platen met de gekalligrafeerde "Ik hou van jou" in meer dan 250 talen en dialecten van over de hele wereld. Bioscoop CINÉ 13, 1 avenue Junot

Emily in Paris, Le fabuleux destin d’Amelie Poulain: chic flicks en Parijs zijn voor elkaar gemaakt. Ben je in Parijs en krijg je zin een filmpje te pakken (we zouden niet weten waarom je in de lichtstad het donker opzoekt maar hé, wie zijn wij?) dan mag je dit pareltje van een bioscoop niet missen. Ciné 13 is het charmante paradepaardje van een beroemde Franse regisseur. In de intieme zaal zijn de eerste drie rijen uitgerust met loveseats voor 2 à 3 personen. In de armen van je lover(s) een film kijken: Parijse romantiek op zijn best!
