PSSST... and we really do mean PSSST!

Have you spotted our new fabric spray yet? Psst psst, wake up and smell the coffee. Correction: smell the heavenly scent that’s even harder to define than coffee. But it sure is delicious! The name of the scent is Carte Blanche. Très chic, non?

“Why do I need a fabric spray?” we can hear you thinking. Counterquestion: why do you need dry shampoo? Because you want to put off washing up? Well, there’s your answer right there. Sometimes clothes—just like your hair—aren’t quite ready for a wash yet, but there’s definitely room for improvement when it comes to scent. With a fabric spray, you can effectively do something about improving the smell.

Apart from that, washing less often is a hot topic anyway. We’re talking about clothes and textiles here—let’s be clear about that. It’s part of making our daily lives more sustainable to give the environment a break. Because washing “costs” water and energy, and detergents end up in our environment via the sewer system. Common knowledge, we think, but a refresher never hurts (pun intended).

As for (merino) wool, there’s good news—though for the more observant among you, this might be “old news”: you don’t have to wash it as much. For the newcomers—or the less observant among you (we love you too, by the way):

YOU READ THAT RIGHT: YOU DON’T NEED TO WASH MERINO WOOL!

We’ve actually written a detailed blog about this, but in case this is news to you:

  • The open structure and crimp of the merino wool fiber (footnote: it’s actually hair) provide natural ventilation for the knitwear. To give that built-in air conditioning a boost, hanging it out in the humid outdoor air is often enough. Goodbye, lint; bye-bye, barbecue; farewell to sweat and elbow grease!
  • All types of wool have a natural layer of fat. That wool fat is called lanolin, and it forms a protective layer that repels dirt and dust. If any dirt does manage to get into your wool, the proteins in the wool grease break down bacteria, which also reduces the chance of odours.
  • If you’ve spilled something major on your wool garment, sometimes you just can’t avoid a wash. With a special wool detergent that leaves the lanolin layer intact—three guesses: you’ll find that in our shop too, from the Eucalan brand—things usually turn out just fine. For this topic, too, we have written a blog . There really is no rest for the wicked ;-).

Back to the red line: washing is a last resort. A fabric spray is ideal for a quick, odour-fighting refresh. For example, if the barbecue was really wafting smoke your way, your prone-to-shivers aunt thinks fondue is cozy even with the windows tightly shut, or if your sweater/blouse/dress/T-shirt spent a month (or two) too long in winter storage.

The scented liquid comes in a stylish spray bottle. Because it’s got to look good, too. Curious? (We’re super proud of it.)

The spray is super easy to use: easy peasy lemon squeezy (and you don’t even have to squeeze that hard). Here’s how it works:

  • Spray from a distance—20 to 30cm is fine
  • Don’t use too much, but don’t use too little either (psst psst… okay, one more time: psst)
  • Hang the garment in an open space (indoors or outdoors) until it’s dry
  • And you’re all set!

Of course, you could be frugal and just use a flower spray bottle with tap water. But don’t you treat yourself to a bit of nice, fragrant perfume every now and then too? Because it makes you happy? Then pamper your hardworking clothes as well—they deserve it. You don’t need any other reason; you have Carte Blanche.

You can buy the Carte Blanche Clothing Spray here in our shop.

A note for the discerning consumer (feel free to take this personally). Our clothing spray is safe for fabrics. Dûh. And no, it isn’t automatic either. You will have to spray on the scented girls-best-friend yourself. Psst psst!

FAQ

How does a fabric spray work on a merino wool sweater?

A fabric spray neutralizes unpleasant odours in the fibers and leaves the fabric smelling fresh without the need for water, detergent, or a washing machine.

Why is it better to wash merino wool less often?

Washing it in the washing machine too often causes friction and wear on the delicate fibers of merino wool. By using a fabric spray or hanging the sweater outdoors to air dry, it will stay beautiful and soft for much longer.

Does fabric spray damage the fibers in merino wool?

No, as long as you choose a mild fabric spray that's suitable for fine wool and fabrics. Spray it onto the garment from a slight distance and let it air dry.
